Saturday November 27th 2010 dawned a cold windy miserable day with
threatening snow showers predicted for the season ending CBFTA Trial.

Regardless of the chilly start to the day, the spirits of the eager competitors were
not dampened. Dogs loaded in crates, last cup of coffee downed, trucks headed
for Delmer Seales Fox Pen, off they went to do battle in the field of Beagling on Fox.

Americans and Canadians together once again not only as beagle competitors but
more importantly, together as hounds men, to enjoy the sight and sound of the
beagles in the field, doing what they do best.....pursuing with gusto the target
quarry, be it a varying hare or a fox. It was to be yet another “COME RUN & HAVE
FUN” day...... and it was a dandy.

Following the entering of dogs, the painting of assigned field numbers, the
assignment of judging partners, the 30 eager to run beagles were cast at 8 AM.
The chase began almost immediately providing two quick scores by Gallery
Judges Harold Hannah and Coady McDonald. They were impressed with the dogs
being so close to the travel line of the fox. It should be noted these gents have
outstanding credentials dating back to the 1950's, both as Brace and LPH
beaglers types, however they were impressed with not only the speed but also the
accuracy of the dogs.

As of this trial, founding member and treasured friend, Dan Kane of
Happyrun Beagles, officially retired from the sport. Dan's reach in the
beagle world has been far and wide for over 40 years due to his
participation, dedication, and beneficial contributions.

The membership would like to express their sincerest gratitude for Dan's
tireless work in the Canadian Beagle Fox Trial Association since its
inception in 1994. We send our very best wishes for his future endeavors.

"The CBFTA won't be the same without you, Dan, and it wouldn't
have existed without you, either. We will sincerely miss your presence,
and we hope you will visit us for a trial now and then."

Taking the knowledge Dan has shared with us, and inspired by his
dedication, we will continue forward with the best of
Beagling traditions --Beagle on Fox,
and encourage others to discover the simple truth in our motto,

"Come Run and Have Fun."
Mr. Fox looked all business at this trial.
Dan was honored with a plaque of appreciation by the
membership, and the extra fellowship of long-time beagling friends
who made a special trip for this trial made his send-off a
memorable one. As they congratulated Dan on his 45 successful
years in beagling, member and photographer Todd DesChamps
captured the day with some superb pictures. Enjoy!
NOT SO FAST!
Dan receives handshakes and his plaque of appreciation
from the membership. Long-time friend and fellow beagler,
Coady MacDonald has Dan's arm.

Many other quality scores were recorded. Some in the hardwoods, now free of their leaves, and on the twisting trails within the dreaded ground
juniper. Finally the Call Off horn blew at 12 noon, much to the delight of that scantily clad lad from south of the border, who was only too glad to get on
the move catching up dogs.

With scores reported, tabulated & the awards on display, Todd DesChamps in his usual picture taking position, Dereck Brazier announced the
eagerly awaited placement results. Although with only the top 10 of the 30 starters being awarded for their accomplishments, the spirit of good
houndsmen was happily demonstrated by everyone with each award presentation.Atop of the heap once again was Grand Beagle on Fox
Champion, Slack's Dora, owned by veteran John Mclean. Following close behind was Roy's Duggan, owned by newbee Chris Lloyd.

Within the remainder of the top 5 placements in 3rd and 4th place respectively were LPH CKC FTCH's Brazier's Diablo (15”male) & Brazier's Ranger
(13”male). The 6th to 10th placements were shared by 3 seasoned campaigners & two derby dogs.

All in all the trial was a fitting ending to the 2010 season. Next year promises to be even bigger and better with the combined  participation of USAer's
& CDNer's from both LPH & CBFTA  worlds doing what they enjoy most (next only to good food, good drink, and carnal congress, of course!)
