IBFT 2007 Continued...
After the hounds were caught up on
Saturday, the scores were posted and
everyone went back to the Mays’
Camp for a supper of cheeseburgers
on the grill, scalloped potatoes, and
some delectable sweets made by Peter
Penner’s better half, and brought
by Peter. It was good to have Peterâ
€™s company even though he didnâ
€™t have a dog in the race. Peterâ
€™s an ol’ hound guy for a long
time now – successful in both the big
hounds and the beagles, and as
knowledgeable of a gentleman as youâ
€™d want around.

With full bellies and empty pockets
from a long night of playing “Ceiling
Fan Roulette at the hunt camp the
night before, everyone retired to get
ready for the second day. Scores from
both days would be accumulated, and
before noon on Sunday, there would
be twenty international field awards
given; Best Mouth, and Classiest
Hound. The show portion had been
held after supper on Saturday night,
Bev Cross judged the show, and Best
Female Show had been awarded to
Viagra’s Cashmere Kate, owned
by Matt Brazier of Ontario, and the
Best Male Show went to D & A’s
Budweiser, owned by Alvin Avins
from South Carolina.

Sunday morning we were treated to all-
you-can-eat breakfast of bacon, eggs,
toast, and hot coffee, cooked by Dayle
“Hollywood Wright and Lorne
Burke.

After Sunday breakfast, everyone
caravanned to David York’s pen,
which presents a much different
topography than Delmer’s pen of
rocky mounds of thick juniper with
twisted paths running through it. Yorkâ
€™s pen has more open woods, but is
still hilly, and stocked with plenty of
energetic red fox.

Judging partners were once again
paired up and the hounds released. We
didn’t think the running could get
any better than the day before, but it
certainly equaled it, if not surpassed it.
A few hounds didn’t return on
Sunday, some pulled by owners and
some not advancing with positive
points, but the field was still large at
forty hounds, and a very competitive
bunch they were.

Many fox crossings were scored, and
at 11:15 am, the truck horn sounded
and the trial was done. Time to catch
up hounds and sort out the winners.
Beaglers mingling while the Saturday scores were
tabulated.
